Welcome to Palimpsest, one of the two in-person ORPGsoc Society Games for Trinity Term of the 2025–2026 academic year, alongside Ex Nihilo.

Palimpsest is a game set in the surreal dream vision of the the House of Fame, where sundry Dreamers from across the world of Untir mingle, share tales amongst themselves, and vie for Fame's favour.

Palimpsest will be running every Tuesday evening during term time, beginning in Week 1. For more information, see When and Where.

If you are new to Society Games, or to roleplaying in general, Guide for Beginners, Intro to the Wiki System, Uptimes and Sessions, and Downtimes and Turnsheets may be useful reads. Also, check out the Glossary for useful terminology.

To learn more about the game's setting, see the pages in the Setting section of the sidebar, especially Untir and the House of Fame. Information about the different regions of the world, to inspire character origins, is navigable from the list. There is no pressure to read every Setting page in detail, and you do not need to remember everything!

If you wish to participate in the game, you will need to sign up using this short form by 23.59 on Wednesday 22nd April. In the event that more players sign up than we can accommodate, we will hold a ballot. More information about this is available on the Character Creation page.

There will be an optional Character Creation event on Friday 24th April at Christ Church College, which will simultaneously run online on our Discord Server. We strongly encourage you to join the Discord Server if you are interested in playing Palimpsest—it's a space where you can get help and ideas any time, and also socialise out-of-character with other players.

After ballot results are released on Thursday 23rd April and your place in the game is confirmed, you will need to create a character and submit it to us using the Character Creation Form by Saturday 25th April at 12:59.
